Hi all, I would like to comment about the Chinese competition. I am sorry to say that I don't quite agree with all of you. George states that we don't have time. But in actual fact, I seemed to have more time in term 3. After attending the Adam Khoo workshop, I believe that all of us have learnt how to manage our time better. Isn’t it? For me, I have learnt to cope with my studies better. In fact, now, I can revise 3 subjects a day, plus homework, and sleep before 11pm.
Thanks to Adam Khoo...everyone has their own tight schedule. It is just how well they can manage their time. Umm... excluding the sc students. I can see the tiredness on their faces in school....the Chinese competition; maybe we can talk to ms chin as a class. I agree with huan. Maybe it is across all levels??? Since some of you claimed that the Chinese competition will make you lose face. Maybe we can ask the teachers maybe send the good ones only? Hey, come on 3e1. All of us claimed that we are the best, isn't it. But when it comes to a minor competition, where is the spirit and enthusiasm?
Since we claim that we are the best, we should be like other superior schools who can cope well with everything, isn't it? Why should we be afraid of the competition? Even 1e1 never objects, why must we object? Just treat it as another assignment. I believe that we put in a lot of efforts in all assignments right? Just treat the coming assignment as another ordinary one. Put in your best. We should focus on the process of doing the assignment, but not the outcome.
Sorry, if I seem to be picking on George. Umm, he said that we have more subjects compare to other classes?? No, we have the same number of subjects. And why do you say that we have more math homework then them? No, in fact, they have more stress in math compared to us. They have so many notebooks. They attempt the workbooks all these. True enough, the two previous terms we have more homework then them. But this term? Hardly any math homework. Isn’t it? In fact, I quite missed the tons of math homework. Without the homework, I feel odd... haha George, once upon a time, I also have the same mentality as you. as in why should we have a test every month. However, come to think of it, if without the tests, would anyone be revising on their own?
Instead of dwelling the negative side, think of the positive side! Treat the tests as worksheets. The worksheets are for you to gauge your progress and allow the teacher to know which part the students do not understand. Our class still seems quite to the teachers. Only through the monthly tests, they would know which part we are facing difficulties. Take chemistry for example. We don't have a mole concept test. In the end, we struggled in our mid yr. after going through mid yr paper, ms Chiang understands our problems and reteach us. Only through tests and exams, the teachers can understand the weak part of us.
For oneself, there are bound to be benefits too. During major exams, like mid yr, we have 2 subjects per day. Do we have enough time to go through every single worksheet that was given to us? Mainly NO! So for me, I only refer to the monthly tests. All of us should stop grumbling. Do not take the outcome of the monthly tests to heart; the ultimate outcome we are aiming for is our o levels. by then, who bothers about your monthly results?? We should learn from the mistakes that we committed and not to make that again in the major exams. Moreover, 3e4 has a weekly math test.
The most important thing is not about how good you are compared to the others, but to yourself, HAVE YOU IMPROVED? If yes good, maybe every test, you improve by one mark, that is enough. By o level, compared to sec 3, you should feel happy that you have improved. Well, this piece of advice is what I received from mrs kwok and my choir members. they have been a great support to me. I was upset with my results for mid yr. as all of you know, I deproved a lot. Cheer up guys, don't let the marks demoralized u! hmm... about the depression and suicide, haha, I quite agree with George. no amount of medicine or stupid counseling will cure depression and prevent suicide cases!!!
About the teachers stress, umm... actually, if you don't have the passion to be a teacher, you would feel the stress. if you have the passion, you would feel great instead of stress. if you all don't believe me, we can conduct a survey after our exams. if one has the passion in teaching, u won't feel condemned to it. Confucius once say this: “Find a job that you enjoy doing and you don't have to work a single day". if the teacher main aim is to help and guide the teenagers through their teenage years, they would not feel stress. Ya, that's all I have to say, focus on the process instead of outcome!
NOTE: guys, adam khoo workshop is really helpful. dig out the notes u have made during the workshop. use it! it is worthwhile. it has worked on me. The memory curve. I realized that I have a better memory of the facts.... try it.... maybe you might do better and can cope better :)kk, i have to go now...take care guys. term 3 is hectic!!! don't fall sick. i was running a fever yesterday. Take good care of your health. don't stress yourself out! take out time for yourself. Maybe you all should have some break first before continue? don't break down guys!!! we shall support one another to the end!! Hang on there!! Count down!! Final yr exams are round the corner lerx... after the exams, we would be able to rest again...umm, I am sorry if I have offended you all.... it is just my personal views...
(I the behest of Li Ting, I have spent a little time editing the grammar and paragraphing, so that it will be easier to read. I have also added a title. Of course, I do not claim that the grammar is near flawless. Yours sincerely, Hongjie)
