Personally, I too feel that this homework assignment is too sudden and abruptive, popping out of no where and shocking the whole class. It is one thing to complete a homework/class test assignment but it is another matter to sign us up for the competition without our permission. It is forcing us to take part in the competition and the thing about invovling the work as a part of our CA marks forces us to HAVE to do well in it or risk affecting the final year results.
The next few weeks will be hectic with our monthly tests coming hot on our heels and the rise and fall of emotions after the results, we have to also cope with the studies falling heavy on us. As 3e1, we naturally have more subjects compared to other classes and our mathematics is almost quite alot except compared with 3e2. When people then to be rushed, they also tend to rush through and give the so-called "rubbish work" to teachers making them extremely unpleased. But when one does not have a choice, the decision to hand up rubbish work is inevitable.
So I feel that Ms Chin could give us an assignment like this but not sign up for competition, keeping it maybe for the eyes of the visitors during whatever events occuring in school as people like me and some others I'm sure are very shy X) . Since CA marks are counted, maybe the time could be lengthen so that we can do a better job than what we would hand up in a rush.
I'm also very sure that everybody is currently dealing with both the studies and also the CCAs. The entreprenuer club for example is also very busy preparing for courses and the teacher's day sales which are still in the current discussion mode but are executing them soon from this week.Other CCAs like NCC & SC are something like us, busy or worse.
Regarding the monthly test i was thinking why couldnt we have a test only once every 3months. I mean as Mr Ong says studying is about the UNDERSTANDING. So, if one could understand what he/she is studying so even a test is given 3 months later it is still possible to survive the test right? This monthly test is placing unnecessary stress on the students in Singapore. Notice that i used the word Singapore because almost every school in Singapore are going through what our school and students are going through. Giving a monthly test will place unnecessary stress on students making them jumpy and nervous for 2 weeks every month and might even cause MORE suicides cases in Singapore. Those people who says that what depression is cureable and you must know when to relax and all, I say that they are crapping and do not pay any attention to them. I mean if you do not have time to even cope with school work so would one dare to spend time to relax? The answer is surely No. The teachers also suffer with us every month because they are in charge of setting the papers and are responsible for the results of their respective classes. If we do poorly, they will start sweating and ponder over how to make us improve. For Maths practise(i think), sciences remedial lessons, language will be using them frequently and so on. So what i mean is that the teachers will be doing a lot of "extra" stuff that they were not asked to in the job description which might make them wonder what made them wanted to teach and then suffer the risk of dying early? According to statistics, teaching is one job running the highest health risk with the possibility of dying earlier and several health problems like deafness and malnutrition.( i mean the teachers are even thinner than my granny was when she was 90 years old ==")
So the bottom line im trying to say is the education system now is not that good afterall. It is just causing people to age, die faster compared to other countries. It is also forcing people to be more competitive than required. When people are competitive they care more for themselves than others which might explain why Singapore was placed 30+ position for the politeness test oraganised by RD magazine.
So since the teachers are no better than us, I would like to ask teachers and students to be brought to the attention of the difficulties students and teachers seperately and also understand and sometimes tolerate each other for some unreasonable acts.
I would like to wish everybody visiting this blog a good day and good health to you.
Yours Faithfully
George
